Building Re-Tuning Simulator

Training
Back to Main
These training materials teach the fundamental concepts of building automation systems (BAS) and Building Re-tuning™.

Building Re-tuning Simulator (BRS) Training

This training will introduce the audience to the Building Re-Tuning Simulator (BRS), which is a free, easy to use, online tool that helps identify low-cost and no-cost re-tuning measures. Re-tuning relies on building automation system data to identify and implement control measures that ultimately improve the building's energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and improve occupant comfort. The attendees will learn how to access the BRS tool, develop a building model, and use the re-tuning dashboard to identify energy conservation measures and calculate savings.

Re-Tuning Training for Buildings with Building Automation Systems

This course helps engage building operators/managers and students to reduce operating costs and provide energy savings to the buildings they are responsible for or will be responsible for in the future. The knowledge and skills learned here will be highly valued in the energy, controls, HVAC, and renewable industries.

  • Throughout this course, students will learn the initial steps involved in re-tuning a building with a building automation system (BAS).
  • Interactive exercises are included to provide "hands-on" practice with the re-tuning process within a virtual building.
  • Participants will practice identifying opportunities for energy improvements while deciding how to re-tune for more efficiency.
  • In some examples, trend graphs will be utilized from the BAS to help learners understand how the data can aid in identifying potential opportunities for improvement.

Re-Tuning Training for Buildings without Building Automation Systems

The purpose of this course is to teach building operators/managers and students ways to reduce operating cost and provide energy savings to the building they are responsible for or will be responsible for in the future. However, the focus is on buildings that do not have a building automation system (BAS). The measures identified in this course are more prescriptive in nature, and the buildings are primarily served by packaged equipment.

Upon completion of this training, attendees will be able to:

  • Explore the initial steps involved in Re-tuning a building that does not have a BAS.
  • Define how to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Recognize how to implement low-cost changes to reduce overall energy consumption.
  • Engage in interactive exercises included in the training to provide "hands-on" practice of the re-tuning process within a virtual building by identifying opportunities for energy improvement and determining how to re-tune for more efficiency.

Note: The BRS tool cannot simulate or provide recommendations for buildings that do not have a BAS.
